Alpha® Summit Metal Bond Wheel for Granite — 10" Radial Arm Polisher Wheel

The Alpha® Summit Metal Bond Wheel begins the granite polishing process by grinding and honing the slab surface to remove gang-saw marks and prepare the stone for resin polishing grits. Built for radial-arm wet polishers and CNC machines, the 10" Summit Metal Bond family is offered in four sequential grits — #50, #80, #200 and #400 — each color-coded for fast identification on the shop floor. Recommended operating speed is 400 RPM with constant water flow at medium to light pressure for fast, consistent results on granite, engineered stone and marble.

Features

  • Removes gang-saw marks and prepares the surface for resin polishing
  • Designed for radial arm wet polishers, work stations and CNC machines
  • 10" diameter wheel — available in #50, #80, #200, #400 grits
  • Color-coded by grit for quick identification (Green/Blue/Yellow/Orange per vendor)
  • Metal bond construction for long life on hard granite slabs
  • Recommended operating speed: 400 RPM with constant water flow
  • Suitable for granite, engineered stone and marble (shorter life on marble)

  1. Mount the Summit Metal Bond Wheel on the radial arm polisher or CNC spindle following the machine manufacturer's instructions.
  2. Set machine speed to 400 RPM (recommended for 10" wheels).
  3. Apply medium to light pressure — approximately 85 lbs for the 10" wheel.
  4. Maintain constant water flow throughout grinding for cooling and swarf evacuation.
  5. Begin with #50 grit, then progress sequentially through #80, #200 and #400.
  6. For most granites: #50M → #80M → #200M → #400M then transition to Alpha resin wheels (#500R, #1000R, #2000R, #3000R, Buff).
  7. For red granites: #50M → #80M → #200M then jump to #200R resin and continue the resin sequence.
  8. Do not use resin wheels for polishing engineered stone — Summit Metal Bond grinds the stone, then dedicated engineered-stone polishing should be used.
  9. Inspect the wheel between grits for trueness and wear.

What materials can be used with Alpha® Summit Metal Bond Wheels?

They are designed for granite, engineered stone and marble. Note that wheel life is shorter when used on marble.

What sizes are available?

The Summit Metal Bond family is offered by Alpha in 6", 8" and 10" diameters. The wheels offered here are the 10" diameter SM100xxx series.

What grits are available?

Four grits: #50, #80, #200 and #400 — sized for sequential metal-bond grinding before transitioning to resin polishing.

What is the recommended grit sequence?

For most granites: #50M, #80M, #200M, #400M, then #500R, #1000R, #2000R, #3000R, Buff. For red granites: #50M, #80M, #200M, #200R, #500R, #1000R, #2000R, #3000R, Buff.

Can engineered stone be polished with resin wheels after metal-bond grinding?

No. Resin bond wheels are not suitable for polishing engineered stone. Use a dedicated engineered-stone polishing system after the Summit Metal Bond grinding stage.

What machines are compatible?

Radial arm polishers, work stations and computerized numerical controlled (CNC) machines with the appropriate 10" wheel adapter.

Is water required?

Yes. Water is required for all Summit Wheels — constant water flow is needed for cooling and swarf removal.

What is the recommended speed and pressure for the 10" wheel?

400 RPM at approximately 85 lbs of pressure, with medium-to-light operator feed.
