Dry Core Bit With Side Protection

This dry core bit cuts clean round holes in granite, quartz, concrete and other hard natural or engineered stone. Diamond segments on the barrel's interior and exterior — the side protection — keep cutting through the full depth of the hole, and side cooling holes let heat escape so the bit can run without water. It threads onto a standard 5/8"-11 arbor and can also be run wet when extra segment life is wanted. Offered in 1-1/4", 1-3/8", 1-1/2" and 2" diameters.

  1. Mark the hole center on the stone and thread the correct-diameter bit onto a 5/8"-11 output shaft.
  2. Start the bit at a slight angle to score the surface, then bring it upright once a shallow groove is cut.
  3. Run dry at a steady, moderate feed rate; add water at the cutting face if extra segment life is wanted.
  4. Let the side-protection diamonds and cooling holes do their job — avoid forcing the bit or stalling the motor.
  5. Back the bit out periodically on deep holes to clear slurry/dust and let it cool.
  6. Wear eye and hearing protection and a dust mask; clamp or secure the workpiece before drilling.
