Alpha® Ceramica Resin Wet Polishing Pads for Granite

Alpha® Ceramica Resin discs are the backbone of the granite polishing process. Heat-sintered in a mold with a durable resin compound, they stay flexible while delivering consistent, professional results — particularly on curved edges and inside sinkhole cutouts for undermount sinks. Available in 3", 4", and 5" diameters across the full six-grit sequence (#150 through #3000), Ceramica Resin is engineered for hand polishing on a center water-feed polisher at low RPM (2,000–2,500 optimal, 4,000 max).

  1. Pre-grind saw and grinding marks with an Alpha® #60 Vitrified disc before starting Ceramica Resin — this protects the #150 grit and extends its life.
  2. Mount a backer pad on a center water-feed polisher (e.g. Alpha® VSP-320 or AIR-680). Use a flexible backer for curves/bullnose and a rigid backer for flat edges or straight runs.
  3. Run the full grit sequence in order: #150 → #300 → #500 → #1000 → #2000 → #3000. Skipping grits will not yield a high-quality finish.
  4. Polish at 2,000–2,500 RPM (4,000 RPM max). Higher speeds reduce finish quality and burn discs. Use 2 to 3 passes per grit on average — do not rush.
  5. Keep center water flowing at all times. Ceramica Resin is wet-only.
  6. For final gloss on dark granite, follow Ceramica Resin with an Alpha® Ceramica Buff (black for dark stones, white for light). Do not use Ceramica Resin on engineered stone — use Ceramica EX instead.

Do I really need every grit in the sequence?

Yes. Using anything less than the full sequence will not yield a high-quality finish.

What materials does Ceramica Resin work on?

Ceramica Resin is designed for use on granite only. For engineered/quartz stone use Ceramica EX.

Why start with a #60 Vitrified disc?

The #60 Vitrified removes saw and grinding marks. Skipping it forces the #150 grit to work harder and shortens its life.

Can I use Ceramica Resin on an angle grinder?

No. Ordinary angle grinders are far too fast and will burn the discs. Use only water-feed polishers at 4,000 RPM max.

Center water-feed or sponge water?

Center water-feed only. Alpha® recommends the VSP-320 or AIR-680.

How long does a disc last?

It depends on material and technique, but Alpha® studies show no competing disc comes close to Ceramica Resin’s lifespan.

How many passes per grit?

On average 2 to 3 passes per grit. Don’t rush — each grit must do its job.

What is the optimal RPM?

Designed to run at 2,000–2,500 RPM, with 4,000 RPM as the absolute maximum. Exceeding this reduces finish quality.

Vitrified vs. Resin — what is the difference?

Vitrified discs are more aggressive: about 3× faster material removal and longer life. Use vitrified for prep, resin for finishing.

Can I polish engineered stone with Ceramica Resin?

No. Ceramica Resin is granite-only. For engineered stone use Alpha® Ceramica EX.

Can I use Ceramica Resin on a floor-polishing machine?

No — these are hand-polishing discs only. Use Alpha® Advantage Floor discs for floors.

What sizes are available?

Ceramica Resin is offered in 3", 4", and 5" diameters. 4" is the most common.

Flexible or rigid backer pad?

Flexible (rubber) backers for curves and bullnose work; rigid backers for flat areas and straight edges.

Dark granite still looks gray after polishing — why?

Cloudy/gray areas mean a lower grit did not fully remove its predecessor’s scratches. Run the full #60→#3000 sequence with adequate passes.

My employees dislike working wet.

Fabrication is easier, faster, and much healthier when worked wet. Proper attire keeps operators dry.

What polishing powder do you recommend after #3000?

None — skip the sloppy chemicals. Finish with an Alpha® Ceramica Buff disc instead.
