It also makes replacement timing a decision based on evidence rather than on whichever cart happens to fail first.

When the time does come to replace a cart, resist the temptation to simply reorder what wore out. Shop layouts, material mixes, and slab formats change over the years a piece of equipment serves, and the configuration that was correct five years ago may be the wrong one now. A short review of current aisle widths, typical slab sizes, and the routes material actually travels will often point toward a different model than the one being replaced.
