Alpha® Spike Disc — 5" #35 Grit, Square Arbor for ECG-125
The Alpha® Spike Disc uses a multi-layer of high-quality diamond grit vacuum-brazed into a clustered formation to aggressively remove thick coating materials — epoxy, urethane, glue, mastic and paint — from concrete and other hard surfaces. This is the 5" #35-grit version with the dedicated square arbor that fits the Alpha ECG-125 Ecogrinder. Its open-mesh diamond layout eliminates clogging and the resulting heat buildup, while the sandwiched rubber backing cushions the disc for lower noise and vibration. Unlike PCD cup wheels, the Spike Disc removes coatings quickly without gouging the concrete underneath — leaving a surface that is ready for the next finishing step.
Features
- Vacuum-brazed multi-layer diamond grit clusters for fast, aggressive coating removal
- Open-mesh layout eliminates clogging and prevents heat buildup
- Sandwiched-rubber cushion design lowers noise and vibration
- 5" diameter with dedicated square arbor for the Alpha ECG-125 Ecogrinder
- #35 grit — coarse, ideal for thick coatings and heavy epoxy
- Removes coatings without gouging the concrete substrate
- Long life — Alpha cites up to 50–60x the life of conventional abrasives
- Compatible with Ecoguard G & HEPA vacuum for virtually dust-free grinding
| Part No. | Size | Grit | Arbor | Max RPM | Application | UPC |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| VCS503Q | 5" | 35 | Square (ECG-125 Ecogrinder) | 12,200 | Coating Removal — Epoxy, Urethane, Glue, Adhesives | 749173670152 |
- Mount the VCS503Q onto the square arbor of the Alpha ECG-125 Ecogrinder; confirm the disc is fully seated.
- For dust-free operation, fit the ECG-125 with the matching Ecoguard G shroud and connect a HEPA vacuum.
- Keep tool RPM at or below the disc rating of 12,200 RPM.
- Hold the grinder flat against the surface and let the diamond clusters do the work; do not force-feed.
- If the disc loads up with sticky mastic or glue, grind a small area of bare concrete or cinder block to clear the cutting edges.
- You may run the Spike Disc with a light water mist to suppress dust if dry capture is not available.
- After coating removal, follow with a finer grinding or polishing step (Vflex, resin pads) to refine the concrete surface.
- Inspect the rubber cushion and diamond bead clusters before each use; replace the disc if delamination or bead loss is observed.

How long does the Spike Disc last vs. conventional abrasives?
Alpha states the Spike Disc lasts up to 50 to 60 times the life of conventional abrasives, depending on the coating type and condition of the substrate.
Can it remove sticky mastic and glue?
Yes. If the cutting edges load up with sticky residue, briefly grind a section of bare concrete or cinder block to clear the diamond clusters.
Can I use water with the Spike Disc?
Yes — a light water mist is acceptable to keep dust down. Most users run dry with Ecoguard G dust capture.
How does it compare to a PCD cup wheel?
PCD cup wheels use scraping teeth that can gouge the concrete surface and leave grooves that need additional grinding. The Spike Disc removes coatings without damaging the concrete underneath.
What tool does this specific VCS503Q fit?
The VCS503Q has the square arbor designed for the Alpha ECG-125 Ecogrinder. Standard angle-grinder versions of the Spike Disc are available with 7/8" round and 5/8"-11 zinc-hub arbors as separate part numbers.
Is it suitable for dust-free grinding?
Yes — the Ecogrinder + Ecoguard G + a HEPA vacuum delivers virtually dust-free coating removal.
