What is in the 5480-1700 Starter Kit?
One 24" T-Cutter (KEC-600), one Slimline Oil Cutter (KOC305B), one Running Plier (KOC512P) and one 8 oz EZ Cutter Oil (KOC1000) — everything needed to score and snap thin porcelain.
What materials can I cut with this kit?
Smooth-surface porcelain panels and slim tile such as Daltile® SlimLite™ and Crossville® Laminam®. It will not work on textured panels, natural stone or glass.
What is the maximum material thickness?
Up to 3/8" (10 mm) effective thickness. Minimum is typically 1/8" (3 mm).
What is the maximum cut length?
The 24" T-Cutter (KEC-600) included in the kit scores up to 25-1/2". For panels up to 60" step up to the KEC-1500 (60" T-Cutter, sold separately).
Does it work on textured panels?
No. Textured surfaces prevent the wheel from producing a continuous score. Use the Alpha Spike Ruler with a power tool such as the Ecocutter (ECC-125), AWS-110 stone cutter or Ecoguard C with a Katana / Laminam blade.
Do I have to use the oil?
It is highly recommended — the oil keeps the tungsten-carbide wheel cutting smoothly and extends its life. Kerosene, mineral oil or sewing machine oil are acceptable substitutes if needed.
How do I get a clean snap with the Running Plier?
Place the plier on the score line with the red indicator aligned to the score, then apply a gentle, even squeeze. The break should follow the score with very little force.
Can I cut a 45° miter or shower-knob cutout?
No — this is a straight score-and-snap kit. For 45° miters use the Alpha Beveling Auxiliary Base; for shower-knob cutouts use the Alpha Contour Blade for Porcelain.
