Alpha® PVA VP 4-1/2" Dry Polishing Disc — with Disposable Zinc Hub

The Alpha® PVA VP polishing disc is a versatile, high-speed, dry polishing system used to bring softer stones and stainless steel to a semi-mirror finish. Formulated with a silicon carbide abrasive and a polyvinyl alcohol bond, the disc is color-coded by grit for easy sequencing and works on most common high-speed angle grinders, sanders and polishers. This 4-1/2" version ships with a 5/8"-11 disposable zinc hub so it threads directly onto any standard angle grinder.

Features

  • Dry polishing system — do NOT use with water
  • Polishes softer stones (marble, limestone, travertine, softer granite) and stainless steel
  • Also works on aluminum, ceramic, wood and most metals
  • Excellent for paint, rust and coating removal — disc will not clog
  • 4-1/2" diameter x 3/8" thick, 13,200 RPM maximum
  • Color-coded by grit: White (Extra Coarse), Red (Coarse), Blue (Medium), Green (Fine), Yellow (Extra Fine)
  • Silicon carbide abrasive in polyvinyl alcohol bond — fast working, long lasting
  • 5/8"-11 disposable zinc hub — fits any standard 4-1/2" angle grinder

  1. Thread the disc onto a standard 4-1/2" / 5/8"-11 angle grinder, sander or polisher.
  2. Run DRY only — the PVA VP series cannot be used with water.
  3. Begin with White (#40, Extra Coarse) for shaping, then step through Red, Blue, Green, Yellow for finer finish.
  4. On a variable-speed polisher, Alpha® recommends ~5,000 RPM — mid-range gives best finish without overheating the surface.
  5. Never exceed 13,200 RPM stamped on the disc.
  6. To reduce dust, pair with Alpha® Ecoguard G dust shroud and a HEPA vacuum for virtually dust-free polishing.

Can I use PVA VP with water to keep the dust down?

No. PVA VP is a dry-only polishing system. To reduce dust, Alpha® recommends pairing it with Ecoguard G and a HEPA vacuum for virtually dust-free sanding and polishing.

Does Alpha® offer a startup kit for PVA VP?

No. Most applications don't require every grit — for example, glass-edge polishing is typically done with just two grits (Red and Green) — so a kit isn't offered.

Is there a 7" diameter PVA VP for vertical sanders?

Not as a standard item. 4-1/2" is the largest standard size; larger sizes (including 7", with or without disposable hub) can be produced on special order — contact us with your request.

What RPM should I run on a variable-speed grinder?

PVA VP works at any RPM a variable-speed polisher offers. For best balance of finish quality and processing speed, Alpha® recommends ~5,000 RPM — mid-range avoids heat buildup on the surface.

Why is PVA VP color-coded instead of using mesh numbers?

Because of the unique PVA bond and its hardness, PVA VP leaves finer scratches than other bond systems at the same mesh size. Alpha® uses Extra Coarse / Coarse / Medium / Fine / Extra Fine labels with color coding so operators can identify the polishing sequence at a glance.

Why no desiccant pack in the bag anymore?

Two reasons: the disc base is no longer vulcanized fiber (which used to absorb humidity), and the discs now ship in a skin-tight shrink pack that minimizes exposure to humidity in the first place.
