Core Drill Bit for Quartzite

This dry diamond core bit is built to bore clean, round holes through quartzite, granite and other engineered or natural stone — the kind of hole a faucet, soap dispenser, drain line or electrical fixture needs once a slab is already cut and installed. It runs dry (no water line needed) on a handheld angle grinder, which makes it a practical choice for a quick field hole rather than a full production run. It is available in three diameters: 1-1/4", 1-3/8" and 2".

Features

  • Diamond core bit for drilling fixture and plumbing holes in quartzite, granite and other hard stone
  • Dry use — no water supply or vacuum line required to run the bit
  • Mounts on a standard handheld angle grinder for on-site, in-place drilling
  • 1-1/4" and 1-3/8" diameters suit most faucet and fixture holes; the 2" diameter suits drain, pipe and valve holes
  • Suited to occasional field holes rather than high-volume shop production
SKU Diameter Weight Typical Use
CBQZT114 1-1/4" 0.5 lb Specialty faucet and valve holes
CBQZT138 1-3/8" 0.5 lb Standard faucet holes
CBQZT2 2" 1.0 lb Drain, pipe and valve holes
  1. Mark the hole center and mount the bit on a handheld angle grinder.
  2. Start the cut at a shallow angle (about 30–45°) to score a guide groove, then bring the bit upright.
  3. Run at low speed with light, steady pressure — do not force the bit into the stone.
  4. Back the bit out periodically to clear dust and let it cool; stop immediately if it starts to smoke.
  5. Because this bit runs dry, use it for an occasional field hole rather than back-to-back production holes, which wear a dry bit faster than a water-cooled one.

What is this bit used for?

Drilling round holes through quartzite and similar hard stone for faucets, soap dispensers, drains, pipes and other fixture penetrations.

Does it need water?

No. This is a dry-use bit — no water line or wet setup is required. For high-volume production holes, a water-cooled bit will cut cooler and last longer.

Which size do I need for a faucet hole?

Most faucets use a 1-3/8" hole; some fixtures call for 1-1/4". Check the faucet manufacturer's specification before drilling.

What is the 2" size for?

The 2" diameter is sized for drain, pipe and valve holes rather than standard faucet holes.

Drilling stone produces respirable crystalline silica dust, a serious respiratory hazard. Wear an N95 or P100 respirator, safety glasses and hearing protection; if drilling indoors or for extended periods, use a vacuum dust shroud. Follow all applicable OSHA silica-dust requirements.
