MB Stone Care Granite Black Honing Powder — Coarse 70 Grit, 1 lb
Granite Black Honing Powder is a black silicon carbide abrasive powder used to produce a uniform flat honed finish on granite. It is intended for medium to dark honed granite, where it leaves a smooth, uniform honed finish across the face of the stone. The powder is mixed with water on the surface into a heavy cream-like paste and worked with a hog's hair pad on a right-angle polisher or a floor machine. It is supplied in Coarse 70 grit and packed by weight in a 1 lb (0.45 kg) container.

- Clean the surface to be honed of all debris, sand and dirt.
- Mask off any surrounding surface that could be damaged by splatter.
- Strip the stone of any topical coating or crystallizer before honing — the powder must reach bare stone.
- Counters: work a target area of 2 to 3 sq ft using about 1/2 teaspoon of powder. Lay the powder in a circular pattern smaller than the pad, then add enough water to make a heavy cream-like paste.
- Counters: set a hog's hair pad on the paste and run a right-angle grinder or polisher at no more than 900 RPM (600 RPM is best), applying as much pressure as the machine will take before it stalls.
- Floors: work a target area of 10 to 12 sq ft using 2 oz of powder. Lay the powder in a circular pattern smaller than the pad, set the floor machine with a hog's hair pad on top of it, then release enough water from the machine tank to form a heavy cream-like paste.
- Floors: use a machine weighing between 130 and 160 lb (59 to 73 kg) and spinning at no more than 175 RPM.
- Follow a consistent, pre-planned working pattern, the same way you would with diamond pads, so the finish comes out even.
- Keep the slurry wet by adding water as needed, and add more powder as needed, until the desired finish is reached.
- Rinse well and pick up the water with a wet/dry vacuum.
