MB Stone Care Stain Reaper Poultice Paste for Natural Stone
Stain Reaper is a ready-to-use poultice paste that draws deep-seated oil, dirt, harmful salts and other embedded stains out of interior sensitive masonry, including limestone, travertine, granite and marble. It is safe for use on polished finishes and releases no VOCs. The paste is troweled on, covered with plastic film for 24 hours, then allowed to dry so that it pulls the stain out of the stone as it dries. Approximate coverage is 4 to 6 sq ft per lb depending on the porosity of the stone.

- Cover or tape off every surface that is not meant to be treated so it is protected during the application.
- Wet the area to be treated, then apply the paste 1/8 to 1/4 inch (3 to 6 mm) thick using a trowel, airless sprayer or other suitable applicator.
- Cover the poultice with plastic film and tape down the edges. Leave it in place for 24 hours; the paste will cling to the surface.
- Remove the plastic and let the poultice dry. This is the most important part of the process — the stain is drawn out of the surface as the poultice dries.
- Scrape the dried poultice and the captured contaminants off the surface. Slide a corrosion-resistant spatula, trowel or similar scraping device under the paste and lift it carefully. Non-metal tools are preferred to avoid scratching the surface. Remove as much residue as possible.
- Rinse the surface thoroughly with fresh water using a sponge, soft cloth or low-pressure, low-volume rinsing equipment.
- Repeat the application if the stain has not fully released.
- Observe the temperature limits: surface and air temperatures must be at least 50 °F (10 °C). Applying below freezing, or when temperatures will drop below freezing overnight, may harm the masonry. If freezing conditions exist beforehand, let the surface thaw first.

Does Stain Reaper remove organic stains?
Yes. It is designed to remove stains from food and other organic sources. It works particularly well on oil stains and can be used on wine, coffee, urine, cooking grease, olive oil and similar organic staining.
Can I use it on polished stone?
Yes. Stain Reaper is safe for use on polished finishes, including polished granite countertops.
Is Stain Reaper safe on light-colored granite?
Yes. It can be used on light surfaces, as well as on granite, marble, limestone and travertine, including polished finishes. For black granite, contact the manufacturer before use.
Will it remove mold and mildew stains?
No. Stain Reaper is not designed to remove mold and mildew stains. Use MB-9 Mold & Mildew Remover for that type of staining.
Why is plastic wrap used over the poultice?
The plastic film keeps the poultice wet longer when treating an oil stain, trapping moisture so the paste works on the stain more effectively.
Why not just use a baking soda poultice?
Baking soda mixed with hydrogen peroxide is a common home remedy and may lift staining superficially, but a poultice product is what is needed once oil-based stains have soaked deep into the stone.
Does a plastic scraper come with the product?
No. A scraper is generally not needed — when the poultice is completely dry it can simply be wiped away.
Do I need to seal the stone after using the poultice?
Yes. If the stone is absorbing liquids and staining, it needs to be resealed. MB-24 Barrier is the companion impregnating sealer.
Why do natural stone surfaces stain in the first place?
Most natural stone is absorbent, so it takes up liquids it contacts, and a staining agent leaves a mark darker than the surrounding surface. Sealers are applied to keep the stone from absorbing those liquids, and deep-seated staining is usually a sign that the sealer has worn off and the surface needs resealing.
What safety precautions should I take?
Follow the directions, keep the surface and air temperature at or above 50 °F (10 °C), tape off any sections that should not be treated, and avoid metal scrapers so the surface is not damaged.
Can I use this at home or do I need a professional?
It can be used at home provided the instructions are followed. If you have no prior experience cleaning stone surfaces, get guidance before starting.
